Frances: Bedtime For Frances DVD Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

Based on the book by Russell Hoban, Frances: Bedtime For Frances was recently released on DVD. Frances comes to life on screen to entertain a whole new audience of children.

The award winning book Bedtime For Frances is a fun addition to your library. The hard-bound book has the DVD inside. What a great bonus. The book originally debuted in 1960 and received the "Notable Children's Book" award from The American Library Association.

Frances is a fun-loving preschooler. Her parents and baby sister help to complete their family. I love how the dynamic of their family is fairly typical of a family with a toddler and baby. The girls are great friends and play together often. But there are also times when Frances can't stand having to miss out on things because of her baby sister. I also love the episode when Frances just won't go to bed. I can relate with her exhausted parents, because we've had days like that too.

I have to say, this is probably my sons favorite DVD. It has been since we've received it. We have watched it so many times, he could probably quote it line by line for you. He loves it.

One of the neat parts of this DVD is the classical music that they've incorporated into it. Frances loves to sing and dance. I enjoy all the songs she sings to the tunes of classical pieces. They are quite catchy and fun.

Also included on this DVD is an interactive Read-Along of "Bedtime for Frances", a character gallery, and a bonus episode of Fifi and the Flowertots. It is targeted at children 2-5 years old. And it runs for about 47 minutes. I would recommend this DVD to any young children.

Buy It: You can get your own copy of Frances: Bedtime for Frances in stores now or online too.

Win It: I have two (2) copies of this DVD to giveaway to you lucky readers.

To enter: Leave a comment here. (That's it, I'll make it simple this time.) You must also leave your e-mail address, so I can contact you when you win.

Bob The Builder ON SITE: Skyscrapers DVD Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

"Can we build it?" "Yes, we can!" I love hearing that! We are pretty big Bob the Builder fans here. This was the first real TV that my son watched. He was in love with tractors, cars, trucks, and anything else with wheels. So my dad found a Bob the Builder DVD, and Zachariah fell in love.

His favorite Bob the Builder videos are the newer ON SITE ones with real live machinery. Just like the newly released Bob The Builder ON SITE: Skyscrapers. My son loves the live action. And he learns so much from watching things being built too. He knows way more than me about it.

In Bob The Builder ON SITE: Skyscrapers Bob and his crew learn all about building big, tall, huge buildings- skyscrapers. From laying the concrete to putting in elevators, you will learn it all. And you'll even see all about parking garages.

Shortly after we first viewed this DVD, we stayed downtown of a larger city near us. My son was in awe of the skyscrapers. He was pointing so many things out about them. I was shocked at what he'd learned in such a short time. Then are soon as we parked, he knew we were in a parking garage. He loved every minute of it. And I loved hearing about all the things he knew. What a personal adventure for us.

The Bob the Builder ON SITE: Skyscrapers DVD has some neat features too. There is a "Build It with Bob" Puzzle, "Trivia Tune Up", and of course a bonus episode of Roary the Racing Car...which we love too.

The target age is 2-5. And this DVD runs about an hour.

And you can let you kids watch a preview of this video online here.

Buy It: You can get your own copy of Thomas & Friends: High Speed Adventures in stores now or online too.

Win It: I have two (2) copies of this DVD to giveaway to you lucky readers.

To enter: Leave a comment here. (That's it, I'll make it simple this time.) You must also leave your e-mail address, so I can contact you when you win.

HIT Favorites: Playtime Pals DVD Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

HIT Favorites: Playtime Pals is a great collection of best HIT characters and shows. Your children will really enjoy all the fun adventures with Thomas & Friends, Barney, Fifi and the Flowertots, Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam and Kipper.

I love themed DVDs like this. This one doesn't disappoint. It's all about summertime fun. And there is plenty of it with characters like these.

My son is very excited about Summer. He keeps asking where summer is. Since school is out around here already, I told him that now it's summertime. Of course, then he wants to know when we're "going to Summer". Ha! While he might not quite get the point yet, he does like all the fun that we have in the Summer. Swimming, playing outside every day, picnics, fireworks, and so much more. So what better way to start of the summer than with a rainy day, right? At least we have the HIT Favorites: Playtime Pals DVD. He can experience summer a little through his favorite TV shows.

Thomas & Friends are preparing for a festival. But first Thomas has to deliver a light bulb for the lighthouse. I hope he makes it back in time for the fun.

Barney and his friend explore all the activities they can do in the summer. What a way to start it off.

Fifi and the Flowertots make their own "beach" when they can't get to one. I know I love a good day at the beach too.

Bob the Builder helps to builds new stops for Splasher the water bus to pick up passengers.

Fireman Sam always has his hands full when Norman, James and Sarah are around and looking for things to do.

Kipper and his friends are headed to the pool. That's a great way to cool off on a warm day.

And finally the bonus episode of Roary the Racing Car can't be beat.

HIT Favorites: Playtime Pals DVD is just over an hour long. And it is targeted at children ages 2-5.

Buy It: You can get your own copy of HIT Favorites: Playtime Pals in stores or online now.

Win It: I am fortunate enough to have one (1) copy of this fun DVD to giveaway to you lucky readers.

Hip-T Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

I was so happy with the chance to review this awesome product that I had seen online. It's called the Hip-T. You wear it around your hips, so it covers up any areas that might be exposed by low-rise pants and such.

It is wonderful! There are so many great things about it, and let me tell you a few.

I can never find pants/shirts that work well together. When I do buy jeans that fit, they always sag on me. And most pants available to me are low-rise. Or the shirt is just too short to cover enough below.
The problem with that, as you all know, is when you lean over or bend down to get something the pants creep down slowly exposing your lower back (or sometimes a little more). Blah! Who wants to see that.

The Hip-T solution is to cover all that up and still be cute.

I like that I can get good coverage and always feel modest without worrying that it will slip.

I like that I can wear something under all my shirts...without the added bulk of another shirt. This is especially great with the warm summer weather approaching.

And one of the biggest selling points for me was this: THEY CARRY PLUS-SIZES! Hurray! Big girls (like me) need to cover up just as much as everyone else. Their sizes go from XX Small (Youth size 10-12) all the way up to 3XL (24-26).

When I was choosing a size, I asked one of the owners about it. My normal size falls between two of their sizing options. She suggested going for the smaller of the two. I did, and I'm happy that she told me that. I even think next time I might try one size smaller. I always feel like it's a bit stretched out after I wear it for a long time.

These wash well. They are very comfortable to wear too. I can't wait to go out and buy some more. And lucky me...there is a local shop that carries these. But it's super easy to order them online too.

With all the color options, I could wear one of these with each outfit I own. I did, however, choose the white lace Hip-T. It goes well with many of my shirts. It was a good choice for me. I think the next one I get will be a plain black one.

Buy It: You can get your own Hip-T on their website or search for a store that carries them in your area.

Win It: The wonderful owners at Hip-T have offered to give away one Hip-T to a winner here. The winner will get to choose which one they'd like to receive. Believe me, you're going to love this!

Pay Attention for your chances to WIN!

Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutt DVD Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

Fridays are usually a lazy day at my house. My son and I will stay in our pajamas longer. I'll let him watch more movies or play longer than usual. There aren't very often pressing matters to be done on Fridays.

So this Friday we were really excited when UPS dropped off a new movie for us first thing in the morning. (Let me just say here, it pays to have a neighbor that drives for UPS!) We made plans to watch our new movie in the afternoon with a big bowl of popcorn.

We got hooked on Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutt right from the beginning. The first observation that Zachariah made was "That dog can talk!" Ha ha, he was stating the obvious, but his reaction was too cute.

Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutt is being released on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on Tuesday, May 19th at stores everywhere. The characters from previous Dr. Dolittle movies such as Maya Dolittle and Lucky, her pet dog, are back again.

Maya Dolittle is pursuing her dream to be a veterinarian. She is getting ready for college. But her need to help animals NOW takes her another direction. She heads off to Hollywood actually, even against her mother's advice. But it's all in the name of helping animals.

What Maya doesn't realize in her search for meaning is that things aren't always what they seem. Especially when it comes to Hollywood agents who are just out to make a buck. Luckily for her, the animals are all on her side.

This is a great family movie, and I think it is good for any age. My 3 year old loved all the animals in it. And it was cute and funny as well.

Buy It: You can get your own copy of Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts in stores or online now (as of May 19th). It's available on Blu-ray Disc (which also includes a standard DVD) and DVD.

Win It: I have one (1) Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts DVD to giveaway to you lucky readers.
To enter: Leave a comment here telling me who would enjoy this DVD if you won. You must also leave your e-mail address, so I can contact you when you win.

PlainTales First Tales & PlainTales Explorers CD Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

In March Plain Tales released two brand new sets of stories for children on CD. PlainTales First Tales and PlainTales Explorers.

We truly enjoyed having these CDs in the car and in the house. They made for a really quiet car ride! And the stories are fun and entertaining.

We previewed "The Gingerbread Boy and Other First Tales" from the PlainTales First Tales collection. It has sores of the Gingerbread Boy, the Three Billy Goats Gruff, the Princess & the Frog, the Little Red Hen, and the Bremen Town Musicians. The runtime for this CD is 48 minutes. Having several different stories is just right for short trips. We can usually hear one story getting to a place.

The other CD from the PlainTales First Tales collection is "Paul Bunyan and Other American Tall Tales". It features Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill and Davy Crockett. The runtime for this one is 60 minutes.

We also previewed on of the CD's from the PlainTales Explorers collection: "Animal Tales: Raccoon, Bear and Coyote." This is about fictional animals trying to survive. The stories are a bit longer and don't always hold my 3 year old's attention as much, but he still loves listening to the stories while he plays. It runs about 48 minutes.

The last CD is "Johnny Appleseed and Other American legends" in the PlainTales Explorers collection. It tells stories about Johnny Appleseed, as well as Sacagawea, and John Muir. The runtime is 67 minutes.

PlainTales has other CD collections of stories. They are available on their website. The CD's are recommended for ages 5-10. We found that the shorter stories (especially the PlainTales First Tales "Gingerbread Boy and Other First Tales CD) were perfect for my 3 year old.

Buy It: You can get your own copy of PlainTales First Tales or PlainTales Explorers (of their other exciting CD titles) on PlainTales website.

Win It: I have two of each PlainTales CD that we reviewed, so I will have four (4) to giveaway to you lucky readers.

To enter: Leave a comment here telling me which PlainTales CD (they are all listed on their site) you think your children would enjoy most. You must also leave your e-mail address, so I can contact you when you win.
