If you've been around my blog for any point of time, you know that I have a big love for Kidorable. My son has several of their items, and he loves them all. All of his things come from the Pirate Style which he thinks is great. For girls and boys alike their style lines are great for young children. Girls will love the Butterfly and Ballerina items. Boys will get a kick out of the Dragon Knight and Space Hero. And there are many more options for everyone to enjoy!
We have the Pirate Boots & Backpack, which my son gets complimented on wherever we go. We gave my nephew the Pirate Hooded Towel that he loves. And now for winter my son got the Pirate Knit Gloves, Knit Hat, and Scarf. Zachariah was so excited to get these. He's been wearing them a lot this winter.
My favorite thing about the Kidorable products are the cute little details that they add to everything. The Pirate Hooded Towel has an eye patch the hangs over the front of the hood. The Pirate Knit Set is just as great. Each piece has little decals sewn on them, as you can see in the photo. The gloves especially are great with little pirate heads, palm tree, X marks the spot, and more. My son loves playing with them like they are little finger puppets. The scarf is fun and 3 colored with little decals at the end, so they can be seen when the scarf is worn. And the decals are on the top of the hat all the way around, so you'll always see the piratey things.
One little complaint I have is that the decals are felt pieces that are sewn on the knit clothing. The stitching has come apart pretty easily on ours. One of the pirate heads came off the finger of his gloves the first day he wore them. I've had to wash the scarf (car sickness, blech) and while the scarf itself held up great in the washer, the stitching on the decals is now coming loose there too. The good thing is that it's easy to add a few stitches myself and get everything back on.

We really enjoyed the "The Soldier's Tale" from Maestro Classics CD. Listening to the London Philharmonic Orchestra is such a fun experience. You can definitely get lost in the music. It's nice and relaxing for my son at bedtime. And not only can we enjoy the music, but we also get to enjoy the fun story of "The Solider's Tale" inserted into the music.
This is my nephew Easton. He is 20 months old. He is a ball of energy, unlike any kid I've seen his age. The exception might be my sister, his mother, when she was his age. I don't remember, but I've heard stories. And I remember how active and lively she was when she was a bit older.
Easton is also one of the smartest 20-month-olds I've seen. He has been talking for a while now. He started pretty young. His pronunciation is fantastic, and he's so curious to learn new words all the time. He's been putting together full sentences for a while now.
Easton is at the point where he knows everyone's names. He gets very excited when he sees us. You should see this little guy run after his only cousin..."Zacky!!!" he squeals when he sees my son. Every time. One of these days I need to get it on video. He little runs at him full force and squeezes him tight. It's so funny.
Now he's naming the rest of us too. Supposedly he has said "Sarah" or "Aunt Sarah" before, but I've not heard him say it. Once in the car on the way to my house, they told him they were coming here and he said "Yay! Aunt Sarah's!" with his fist raised in the air.
But he will say "Papa" for my dad, his grandpa. He calls my son "Zacky" like I mentioned. He'll point to my husband and say "Itsa Itsa Matt." That means: it's Matt or that's Matt. He says "itsa itsa..." about a lot of things. Too cute! But when we ask him who I am, he won't answer. I've never heard him say "Sarah".
We were at a funeral visitation this week where my whole family saw each other. Easton was running around and being nuts. Then I mentioned that he named everyone when we got there, but he wouldn't say my name. So we asked him. He pointed to his mom- "Mommy", grandpa- "Papa", Zachariah- "Zacky!", Matt- "Matt", grandma- "Gramma", then me. At first he doesn't say anything...
Then he says it. Easton points at me and says "Gramma." WHAT??!! We said no, this is Sarah. And we all tried convincing him to say Sarah. He wouldn't do it...wouldn't even try. Of course Matt found this hilarious (I did too a little) and kept asking him just to hear him say it. Apparently I'm now dubbed "Gramma" to my nephew. Ugh, I don't think I like this new development.
So I guess I won't take it personally and hope that someday SOON Easton figures out who I am! Have I mentioned that I love being an aunt? Love it!

The Little Bugger was doing it again. The Little Bugger was a nickname Lisa Boyers had give one of her students. He was Chad Lamm. He was a junior now. She’d had him a time or two in her classes. As he’d done before, he was sitting in the front row, staring at her in that way.
It was impossible to miss. His eyes never left her and seemed to widen and contract with every soft swish of her skirt, every step she took from behind her little podium. She felt his eyes tracing the curves of her breasts whenever she reached upward to point at something she’d written on the blackboard. He was undressing her mentally, fondling her, ogling her, whatever you want to call it. It unnerved her to see his eyes so completely focused on her body. It was as if she as a person had ceased to be anything more to him than a plastic sex doll.

My poor son just can't stay healthy. He was back to the doctor this week. Once again he was diagnosed with strep and send home for the day with antibiotics to take for 10 days.
I don't think I've written about it here, but I have complained on Twitter. A lot. I'm so sick of this kid being sick. It's not his fault. We've treated it every time, but then he just gets sick again.
My son is 5 years old (almost 6). He has been the healthiest kid his whole life. Besides for minor colds now and then and a bout of chicken pox when he was a baby, he's not been sick. In fact until December, he had never been to the doctor for being sick. He had only had well-child checkups as needed.
I know we've been very lucky with him this far. But something changed this fall. He went from being home with me all the time to being away at school 5 days a week. Apparently the germs run rampant in Kindergarten. He had a few colds to star this fall. Then the bad stuff started.
About the middle of December Zachariah started complaining of an ear ache. My husband was worried right away, because he had a lot of ear infections as a child. He didn't want to take the chance. Well, within a day or so he had a fever. I knew then that we'd need to make a visit to the doctor. We came home with the diagnosis of an ear infection and antibiotics to start him on. He took the prescription for 10 days as instructed and the ear drops too, and he got better.
Then New Year's weekend he started acting tired, sluggish, sick again. But there was nothing major bugging him. After going back to school to a day or two (I already can't remember), he started complaining of a sore throat. The teacher called to let me know, and I set up a doctor appoint right away. By the next morning he had spiked a fever and that was making him throw up a bit. A quick appointment revealed strep throat.
He took the medication they gave him (same as first time) for 10 days as instructed and got better. But 5 days after that I could hear his throat getting "thick" again. His tonsils were swelling. He woke up in the middle of the night complaining that his ear hurt. We were able to get him to the doctor the next day to reveal another ear infection and tonsillitis. Different, stronger antibiotics were prescribed that time.
We did as instructed. 10 days of these antibiotics and ear drops. And wouldn't you know it...5 days after that he starts sounding funny again. His tonsils were swollen. I waited a few days, because he didn't have a fever and wasn't complaining about anything. We were hoping and praying he would get better. But no. By Tuesday afternoon this week his teacher had called. Zachariah had stopped in the school office first thing that morning to tell the secretary his throat hurt. She said his tonsils were big and throat was red.
I called the nurses at our pediatricians office to get some advice. I didn't know if I should bring him in, have a throat culture taken, or wait it out. There was no fever this time and he really wasn't complaining much. But it was obvious something was wrong again.
This is getting old now.
So after a consult with the doctor we ended up scheduling an appointment first thing Wednesday morning. I packed his backpack and brought it along fully expecting they would send him to school afterwards. He still had no fever and was acting and eating fine. This appointment was quick too. They could see his irritated tonsils, swollen glands and sore throat. A throat culture in fact revealed he has strep throat again! He earned himself another prescription (back to the one he had the first 2 times...a higher dose now) and the rest of the day off from school.
At this point he's been on the antibiotics for 3 days. He's feeling fine, back to school, and sounding better every day. He's acting good, sleeping fine and eating well. I have a sinking suspicion that in another week and a half he'll be sick again. I sure hope not, but that's the pattern this has followed.
My poor boy. I hope something finally works, and we can get him healthy again.
So many people tell me that their kids go through a lot of illnesses in Kindergarten. I hear that it does get a little better each year. What's your experience been?

I got wireless internet Dallas because I was starting my baking company from home and I knew I would need internet on the go. It’s actually been more useful for my family than anything else because they get online in the car or wherever else we are and that’s a lot of fun – it keeps the kids occupied when I need to work, at least! I love being a small business owner and I’m so thankful that everything’s going so smoothly but it’s only a matter of time before I have to upsize again and find more employees. I never thought this company would get to a size where I’d have too much work to do myself but since I got lucky with Julia and her sister I didn’t hesitate to hire some more help and now I don’t have to do any of the heavy lifting on my own. I love to go in and check on them at least once a day but you know, it’s my company and I guess I deserve to manage!
