HIT Favorites: School Days DVD Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

It's back to school time. Our school district starts tomorrow here, and others in the area start this week or last. Even though we don't have any kids in school, it still feels like a monumental time. Like the changing of seasons really.

To commemorate the beginning of school HIT has released HIT Favorites: School Days on DVD. This is a great way to get your child pumped up for the start of school or preschool. The collection of fun HIT characters, like Barney and Thomas, will be sure to brighten their day and make them feel great about school starting.

My son does not go to school yet, but he did really enjoy the HIT Favorites: School Days DVD. There are great lessons about learning and other things in this new DVD. And some of his favorite shows are featured on this one DVD.

You can enjoy all of these episodes: Thomas & Friends- "Thomas and the Colors," Barney & Friends- "The New Kid," Fifi and the Flowertots- "Flying Lessons," Bob the Builder- "Dizzy and the Walking Bus," Fireman Sam- "Fiery Finale," Kipper- "Hide and Seek," and a bonus episode of Roary the Racing Car- "Big Chris Learns to Fly".

Your preschoolers will enjoy each of these fun, adventuresome shows. I love anything that promotes learning. And what better way to do it than with characters your children already love.

The DVD runs approximately 63 minutes. And the targeted age group for these shows are 1-5 years old.

Delgo DVD Review

You will need your imagination and immerse yourself in the fantasy world for the new movie Delgo. When two kingdoms are forced to live in the same area, they must learn to get along and cooperate.

This movie features many famous voices such as Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Val Kilmer, Chris Kattan, Kelly Ripa, Anne Bancroft, Lou Gossett Jr., Burt Reynolds and more. Talk about an all-star cast!

A good description of the movie from the press release:
Delgo takes place in a magical world where two civilizations, divided by fear, and two hearts, guided by love, have one chance to save their world. With the help of a devious traitor and two bumbling servants, an exiled Empress (Bancroft) kidnaps the Nohrin princess (Hewitt) and frames a Lockni teenager, Delgo (Prinze Jr.) for the crime, igniting a war between their people. Desperate to clear his name and rescue the princess, Delgo and his faint-hearted friend Filo (Kattan) join forces with a disgraced Nohrin commander (Kilmer) to prove Delgo's innocence, rescue a princess, reveal a traitor, end a war and unit the poeples of the land before it's too late.

This movie is an epic adventure of good and evil. One person was wronged, another tries to make things right. Will the people learn to get along for good? With new friendships being formed and others proving their worth, maybe things will turn out OK.

The imagination of this movie is amazing. There are so many creatures and people of all different types and shapes. I love the uniqueness of it all.

This movie is better for older children. My son is 3 and it was a little over his head. The Delgo DVD comes with an exclusive animated short, Chroma Chamelon, behind the scenes footage, meet the characters, and more. The DVD is 99 minutes long and available now.

Buy It: This movie is available in stores and in several different places online also.

Kidwinks DVD Review

Kidwinks is a new DVD series that sets out to "stimulate children's speech and language skill and growth". Developed by specialist (a speech pathologist, a music therapist, and an art therapist) Kidwinks is an interested program specifically for young children.

My 3 year old son was instantly entranced by the video we previewed, Kidwinks Play. I'm not even sure what it was about the video that caught his attention so quickly. I found it a little redundant and thought he'd be bored with it. (Of course it's supposed to be this way, but I was surprised my son liked it nonetheless.) He was watching contently and saying the words along with it.

Kidwinks is made for young children and children with speech delays. I love that there is something like this out there for kids like this. I am very passionate about helping children to learn to speak, read, write, etc. This video is made just for that. I'm very happy that there is something for children with speech delays as well.

This video is to the point for young kids. They specifically slow it down to make it easy for children to understand. The dialogue is direct and precise. They repeat many words and phrases over and over. Then they use sign language to teach certain words, i.e. ball. It is also very engaging and interactive with children. My son quickly picked up the sign language words that they used. Well, to be honest he used half of them about 2 years ago, but he stopped using them when he started talking. It was a good refresher and a good learning experience for him.

From the press release:
"The live-action Kidwinks series is designed to stimulate children's interest and increase their awareness of words and language by teaching through short phrases, repetition, sign language, music and simple movements. Kidwinks is also effective for children with linguistic difficulties and those learning English as a second language. Best of all, with its charming characters, original songs and positive reinforcement, Kidwinks is engaging, encouraging and fun."

These videos run for 20 minutes (just long enough to keep your young child's attention). They are made for children ages 18 months and older. The cost is about $14.95 for a DVD.

Buy It: For more information and to purchase a Kidwinks DVD, you can visit their website www.kidwinksUSA.com.

Barney: Book Fair DVD + Book Collection Review & Giveaway (CLOSED)

Book lovers rejoice! Barney has a book with his new DVD. It's called Barney: Book Fair DVD + Book Collection.

I have to tell you, I was very excited to receive this book from the Barney collection along with a DVD. My son loves to watch videos, and he loves Barney, but he really loves to read books. I do too! And I love reading to him, so this was a perfect combination.

The DVD Barney: Book Fair comes inside a remake of the book Count to 10 all for the same price. I don't know about you, but I like 2 for 1 deals. And as always with Barney there is singing and dancing and lots of fun things happening at all times. In Barney: Book Fair the children learn what fun books are. There is always a new adventure waiting when you open a book to see what's inside.

My son thoroughly enjoyed this DVD. He really likes Barney. He also brought the book for me to read over and over. And he reads the book himself too, because he can read the numbers and count along with me.

This DVD is targeted at children ages 2-5. It runs about 52 minutes. This is a DVD repackage of Read With Me Dance With Me which was originally released in 2003.
