Monday Blog Hops

Are you having fun shopping on this Cyber Monday? Or did you shop 'til you dropped on Black Friday? I have done neither. So far I haven't seen any deals I can't pass up. A big percent of my Christmas shopping is already done. And I hate crowds.

So, I've been home going about business as usual. If you call usual a sick husband and a non-working computer. Ick! The husband has seen a doctor and a computer part has been ordered. And I'm fortunate that we also have a desktop I can use, so I can get a little bit done around here.

Make you sure you check out my new giveaways going on now. I just posted some great ones. Enjoy!

Magical Unicorn Pillow Pet Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

Pillow Pets are such a big hit. We loved reviewing the Penguin Pillow Pet a short while ago. We were exited to try out another one.

This time the pink and purple Magical Unicorn joined our family. I was concerned that it might be a bit to "girlie" for my son, so I asked him if he wanted to give it to his friend (a 3 year old girl) to have. He said "No, I love Pillow Pets. I'll keep each one that I get." OK then, so the Magical Unicorn Pillow Pet is not just for girls! It's for sweet little boys too.

If you don't know what a Pillow Pet is yet, you need to go check them out. They have soft, fuzzy animals of all kids that go from stuffed animal to comfy pillow just by unstrapping a hook. And not only do they have the large pillow pets, they now have small Pillow Pets, blankets, backpacks, hats, neck pillows, slippers and books.  With new products and the old Pillow Pets that everyone loves, you'll find something here for every kid on your shopping list.

Be sure to let your kids get to know their Pillow Pets. They have started something new and are debuting the characters on the new Pillow Pets blog. Be sure to get to know the Magical Unicorn like we did. She comes from a castle in Europe and is best friends with Ms. Ladybug and Proper Penguin. (Good thing we've already put two friends together in our house.) Your kids will love getting to know more about their Pillow Pet too when you visit the new blog.

Buy It: You can purchase Pillow Pets online and in stores. They are a perfect holiday gift this year!
Win It: I have one Magical Unicorn Pillow Pet for a lucky reader to win.

To Enter: Tell me which Pillow Pet your kids love the most. Be sure to include your e-mail address, so I can contact you when you win. (If I can't find an e-mail address in your profile or in your comment, I will draw a new number for the winner.)

Extra Entries: If you'd like to, you may earn extra entries for doing each of the following. Be sure to leave a separate comment for each. You must do the above (main) entry first, and then you can do these others.

Families of Kenya & Families of Afghanistan DVDs Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

The Families of the World DVDs are a wonderful series. We've viewed quite a few of the DVDs and loved them all. They now have 25 titles and are growing more. These DVDs show what life is really like for families living in other countries of the world. It's a neat perspective from that of a child to show what their lives are like. And they always show contrasting families, so you truly see different parts of living in that country.

In Families of Kenya there is Prince, an 11-year-old boy, who lives in Nairobi. You get to see how his day goes with school, friends, and even a local festival. And you'll also meet 11-year-old John. John lives on a farm with his parents and has a long walk to his school. And he shows us what the wildlife is like with a safari tour.

When making Families of Afghanistan the producers found information about the country really hard to come by. It was also very difficult to film because they were not allowed to film any outdoor scenes. You will meet 13-year-old Zamora who lives in the country with her parents and other family. You'll see how she helps out around the farm with the animals and gardens. She also attends religious classes and studies the Koran. And Madina is a 12-year-old who lives with her family and goes to school in the mornings. She studies math, science, language, history, sports and computers. And she's helpful with chores around the house with her family.

The Families of the World DVDs are recommended for children ages 5-11. They all retail for $29.95 each. They would make a great addition to any classroom, library, or home school classroom to help students learn about other countries through another child's eyes.

Buy It: You will find Families of Kenya and Families of Afghanistan DVDs and the other Families of the World DVDs on their website for purchase.

Win It: I have one of each of these DVDs I spoke of. So, I'll draw two winners, one for the Families of Kenya DVD and one for the Families of Afghanistan DVD. The first one I draw will choose which they want.

To Enter:
Tell me what other Families of the World DVD you'd like to have.

Little Star by Anthony DeStefano Review

The stars are waiting, because they heard that a king is about to be born on earth. Little Star who is the tiniest, dullest start knows he'll never be what the other stars are. Little Star by Anthony DeStefano tells the story of this Little Star. When he sees the birth of a tiny babe, he takes action when the other stars didn't. And he will be forever remembered.

Little Star is a great children's book. It's perfect for the Christmas season. I love teaching my son the real meaning of Christmas. It's about the birth of Jesus. This is a book that does just that in an entertaining way for children. The way the story brings in a star to tell about the birth of Jesus is so neat. And in the end, you will have a great holiday tradition to enjoy with your family. This book would make a wonderful Christmas gift for any child in your life.

Buy It: Little Star by Anthony DeStefano is available from book stores all over.

*Disclosure: This post was written for Family Review Network & Little Star who provided the complimentary product for review in exchange for my honest opinions.*

Melissa & Doug Puzzles Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

We love puzzles in our house. My son has been interested in puzzles since he was 1 year old. I first noticed he was always working on puzzles when I picked him up from the church nursery on Sundays. So we bought some for home right away. He's always enjoyed them and he's willing to take on any challenge. At barely 3 years old he could put together a 100-piece puzzle that was marked for kids age 6 and up. It's just something he's always enjoyed.

The best puzzles (and almost all our puzzles) in our house are the Melissa & Doug Puzzles. They are wonderful quality and last so well. With a young son I need puzzles that will hold up to his abuse. The Melissa & Doug puzzles look like they are still new and fresh out of the box even after being played with 100s of times. I can't say the same thing about the few other puzzles around our house. They just don't last as long.

Melissa & Doug makes Cardboard Puzzles and Floor Puzzles as well. We had the chance to review several of their different ones. The 500 Piece Map of the World Jigsaw Puzzle was more for me to put together with a little help from Zachariah. They recommend it for kids 12 and older. Mostly I was looking for the learning opportunities that this would give us. I love teaching my son new things, and having a nice puzzle like this to learn about the world is perfect. The pieces are well cut and fit together well. The picture on this puzzle is great for kids. It labels all of the continents and oceans, plus it has wildlife pictures that are appropriate for each continent. It's a great way for my son to learn about his world.

We also received the American Presidents Floor Puzzle. I love the big floor puzzles that my son can do. He spreads out over the living room floor and works on this diligently. This one is a 100-piece puzzle. It shows each United States president from George Washington to Barack Obama. It also shows which number president they were and the years they were in office. This is another great teaching tool for us. The puzzle also has an easy-clean surface, so you can wipe it off if it does get a little dirty from grimy little fingers. This is recommended for kids ages 6 years and up. My 4 year old has no problems with this one, though.

And finally we got to try out the USA Map Floor Puzzle. This is a 51 piece puzzle that ends up being 2' x 3' when assembled. The pieces are a nice size for younger kids. It's very sturdy and easy to clean like the others. The outside of the puzzle is bigger pieces, and then the states are smaller pieces. A few of the smaller (in size) states are pieced together. While recommended for ages 6 and up, my son did this puzzle on his own from the day we received it. And I'm using it to teach him all the states and their locations. It also has state capitols and a picture that depicts something of importance in that state. Arizona has pictures of a cactus on it. Ohio, where we live, has a football on it. That totally cracked us up. Yep, we are known for our love of football. (Go Buckeyes!)

We've really enjoyed our Melissa & Doug puzzles. They have many more too. There are wooden puzzles for young children as well. And they have a great variety of fun and learning puzzles. You can also connect with M&D on Twitter and their blog.. And keep reading if you'd like to win all 3 puzzles that we reviewed. These will make great Christmas gifts for the little puzzle lovers in your life.

Buy It: You can get Melissa & Doug puzzles in stores and online as well.

Win It: One lucky reader will win the 3 puzzles that I reviewed- 500 piece Map of the World Jigsaw Puzzle, American Presidents Floor Puzzle & USA Map Floor Puzzle.

To Enter:
Tell me one other puzzle, not mentioned here, that you liked on their website.

“Arthur” Premiere Review

One of my all-time favorite kids' shows is "Arthur." There is something about it that I find fun…yes even for adults. I used to watch it on purpose before we even had kids every now and then. Most of that is from my love of children's books, and I think the Arthur books are great for kids too.

In October the new season of Arthur premiered. We viewed a few of the new episodes and really enjoyed them. The episode "The Wheel Deal" is all about people who are handicap being able to do things just like other kids. The gangs new friend, Lydia, shows them what wheelchair basketball is all about. There is this and so much more in the new season.

Zachariah is a great age to start enjoying Arthur. I think school-aged children will like it best. Arthur is easy to relate to in his family and school activities. Kids know what friends and homework is all about. And Arthur makes it a little more fun.

Buy It: New episodes of Arthur can be seen now on PBS, check your local listings for show times. And be sure to check out the games and activities on Arthur's website.

Dove Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant Review

Women want to smell fresh and look good. We do, right? So when we can find a product that helps us do that easily, we are thrilled. I found a wonderful product in Dove Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant.

Dove Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant helps to keep you fresh and protected from wetness and odor for 24 hours. Even better is has a special formula that keeps you stubble-free for longer. And its translucent moisturizers will keep your underarms looking good and not leaving white marks.

Dove Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant is available in Ultimate and Clinical Protection. Both helps minimize the look and feel of underarm hair over time. Dove Ultimate comes in Wild Rose and Nature Fresh fragrances. The Clinical Protection is dermatologist recommended and helps with strong wetness protection. It's available in Wild Rose fragrance.

I tested both of the Dove Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorants. I really like the Ultimate variety. The Wild Rose smell is very pleasant. I don't notice any odor when I'm wearing it. It keeps me completely protected all day long. It's much better than other varieties that I reapply at night. The Clinical Protection is nice. I didn't use it a lot. I'm not used to putting something on each night. Plus I feel like I'm just washing it off in the mornings. But I think if I gave it a regular go, I'd like it as much as the Ultimate kind. I definitely recommend the Dove Ultimate Visibly Smooth Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant for any woman looking to change up their deodorant.

Buy It:
Dove Visibly Smooth is available in food, drug and mass retailers.

My Family Christmas Book and Memories Review

How does a Christian family keep Christ as the center of Christmas? Believe me, it's hard sometimes. I don't have anything against contemporary traditions and things, I like them too. But I want my son to understand the real meaning of Christmas. It's really about celebrating the birth of Jesus. And we'll always try to keep that the focus of our holidays.

My Family Christmas Book and Memories by Alejandro Vela Baker, Ana Lucia Vela Aquino, and Cristina Vela Cleary is a book that sets out to show how to keep the real meaning of Christmas alive. It's a binder full of fun Christmas activities and memories. In side you find different sections like Living a Christmas Centered Christmas, Advent, Christmas Readings and Prayers, Christmas Carols and Songs, Christmas Craft Ideas for Children, Favorite Christmas Recipes, Christmas Planning, Christmas Memories, and The New Year. Each section contains ideas, activities, readings, songs, recipes, and more for Christmas. There are places for you to add your own recipes, holiday plans, and keep a log of Christmases spent together as a family.

I am excited for the Christmas season. I can't wait to start using this book with my son this year. I know there are many things in it that we can enjoy together. And most of all I'm very happy that the My Family Christmas Book and Memories helps my family remember to keep Christ in Christmas.

Buy It: You can get your own My Family Christmas Book and Memories book on their website.

Barney Learning Pack 6 DVD Set Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

Another great gift for the holidays is here. Your little Barney lover will enjoy the new Barney Learning Pack 6 DVD Set. It has many of the best episodes with Barney, Baby Bop, Riff, and all their friends. Singing, dancing, laughing and using their imagination is what Barney and his friends do best.

This Barney Learning Pack 6 DVD Set comes complete with episodes that are all about learning. They are perfect for the preschool aged child. The set includes the DVDs "It's Time for Counting," "Numbers! Numbers!" "Now I Know My ABC's," "Rhyme Time Rhythm," "Let's Play School!" and "Red, Yellow & Blue." The set is for children ages 2-5 and runs about 262 minutes with all the DVDs.

My son is preschool age and these DVDs are great for him. (Well, some of them are getting to be a little young for him now that he's almost 5, but he still loves them.) I think part of the reason he loves Barney so much is that he has a great imagination on his own. He loves to make things up and pretend a lot. With Barney that's encouraged. And the singing and dancing just add to the fun. I think this is a great set for any child who enjoys Barney or is just getting to that age to appreciate him.

Many kids love to write letters to Santa each year. They tell him what they want and would love to hear back from Dear Saint Nick. Well, now that's possible, and it's oh so easy. With Printable Santa Letters.com, you can customize a letter to your child from Santa Claus.

Two moms with little kids wanted something that would be easy for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to give their children a special letter from Santa. Now there is an easy, affordable, and fast way to do that. You print out the customized letter, envelope and more on your own computer. With the basic package starting at $3.99, this is something anyone can do for the child in their life.

I liked the selection of letters they had available on their site. There are several basic Santa letters, a baby's first Christmas letter, and even a Christian based letter. I chose the Christian based letter for my son. We've been trying to teach him that Christmas is about Jesus birth first and foremost, so this was a great way to do that too. CSNstores.com: Nexxt Shelf Review

We recently replaced the flooring in our living room. Remember the stuff that I won? Yeah, that's the stuff. So we have beautiful laminate hardwood flooring now throughout our living and dining room. Remind me to share pictures some day soon!

When we moved things out of the living/dining room to rip up and lay down flooring, some things were not coming back into the room. We had a huge entertainment center in the living room that took up so much room. We plan to get a flatscreen TV at some point anyway, and it will not fit into our old stand. So we decided just to get rid of the old stand for now. We're currently using a smaller stand from our bedroom, but we need to decide on a good television stand eventually that will match the room better.

In the dining room we had a large bookshelf that took up a lot of space. Too much space! After seeing the room with it moved out, I decided that was not going back in either. Actually, since the entertainment center held all of Zachariah's books and some toys, the bookcase we had was needed in his room to contain that. It was a good move, but that left me an empty corner that needed a smaller piece of furniture.

I was lucky enough to work with CSNstores.com again and choose an item for review. I looked at bookcase and bookshelves, and I was very pleased with what I found. I finally settled on a ladder shelf. I've been seeing these all over the place lately. And I liked the idea of having something black that looked good with our new flooring.

The Nexxt Hadfield Five Tier Leaning Wall Shelf in Black is just what I was looking for. The price was a little more than I'd expected at $75.00, but it had free shipping on it. The shelf came in a box all in pieces. I had to use a screwdriver to put everything together. Each individual shelf had to have the sides and back put on (repeat 5 times), then the sides of the ladder had to be put together, and finally the shelves got put on the sides. Let me tell you, my hand was tired for several days after this.

Over all I am pleased with the look and structure of the shelf (you can tell I'm not done decorating it yet). It is perfect for the space that I put it in. I'm glad that I found something I love. The few issues I had with the shelf are the length of time it took to put together and one of the bottoms of the shelf did not have pre-drilled holes like the rest. That was a bit of an inconvenience for us, but fortunately my husband drilled a few holes for me and we were fine. The price is a bit higher than I'd expect for something like this, but looking around I see it's reasonable with the $75.00 price tag. (I'm not sure about the marked original list price of $129.00. I would not pay that for it.)

CSNstores.com has always been easy to work with. The products come in quickly, and I've not had problems when I order from them. I will definitely see them again for future needs. They have such a variety of stores that you can find just about anything with them. Stay tuned for a gift card giveaway to CSNstores.com coming very soon!
