Space Bag Lavender Scented Bag Review + {Giveaway – Ends 7/25} (CLOSED)

Join the modern world with the use of Space Bags. They are plastic bags that you can the air out of for easy storage of bulky cloth objects, like large clothing and linens. The new Lavender Scented Space Bags are great for storing linens and bedding. They will leave your bedding with a light, fresh lavender scent the next time you use it.

I had never used Space Bags before, and believe me, I did not know what I was missing. I could use these things all over my house now. I’d be an organizing monster with these. I took some extra sets of sheets that were awkward to get to and store in a linen closet in our hallway. It was very easy to fill the Space Bag with the bed sheets. Then I closed the zipper and checked to be sure it was sealed well. Simply open the air valve cap and place a vacuum cleaner hose on it. When you flip on the vacuum it immediately sucks all the air out of the bag and squishes it down to a much smaller size.

I was impressed with how much less room my bedding now took up in the closet. And I was even able to fold the Space Bag in half to fit in the closet better. I started the vacuum, then folded the bag over before I finished getting all the air out. My other Lavender Scented Space Bag I used to store our comforter that only gets used in the winter. It takes up so much less space this way, and I can store it right under my bed easily. Plus it will be fresh-scented and ready to go when the weather turns cool again.



The best part about the Space Bag is probably that they can be used over and over again if you’re careful not to puncture them. When I switch out our summer and winter sheets and comforter, the other can just go right back into the bag for storage again.

Robby Wash Laundry Ball Review + {Giveaway – Ends 7/24} (CLOSED)

Laundry is a chore that I actually don’t mind. I do have trouble keeping up once in a while. And it’s the worst when I have to wash a load of clothes just to find out that there isn’t enough laundry detergent. Plus detergent is pretty expensive. It’s not cheap to do laundry.

I can cut laundry costs by hanging my clothes to dry. I do that in the summer months especially, and we recently added more lines to our clothesline. I can hang several loads outside as well. It is not only saving me money, but it’s conserving energy.

It’s hard to find ways to save money with the washing machine. I use cold water only, and I use cheaper laundry detergent (within reason of course, it still has to do a good job). But now I have a new way to get clothes clean.

The Robby Wash Laundry Ball works for up to 12 months, is very reasonably priced, doesn’t require other detergents with it, is safe on clothes and is economical too. The Robby Ball is so easy. It is a little ball that holds the pellets that clean your laundry. You just through it in with your laundry and let it do it’s job. When it’s done you pull it out, and it’s ready for the next load.

Some of my favorite features of the Robby Ball are that it’s hypoallergenic and good as a baby laundry detergent, it cleans and protects your clothes, guards fabrics against oxidization and discoloration caused by chlorine in the water, and is eliminates unpleasant smells thanks to its antibacterial action. It does not have a strong, overpowering smell, but it does have a nice, light, pleasant fragrance that helps me know my clothing is clean.

How it works:  The Robby Wash ball uses a unique and patented worldwide technology to clean your laundry even better than the powder laundry detergents it was independently tested against.  Its activated macromolecules are gradually released through the wash, dissolving dried-in stains by generating ions which activate the water molecules. He is We CD Review + {Giveaway – Ends 7/19} (CLOSED)

He is We is a group fairly new in the music scene. They are a pair who has a passion for music and a need to share their songs with others. Rachel Taylor and Trevor Kelly enjoyed making their latest CD entitled “My Forever”.

Here is a little more about He is We:

He Is We’s story is the sort of tale that should begin with “Once upon a time…” In the summer of 2008, Rachel Taylor and Trevor Kelly went to work at Ted Brown Music Tacoma, Washington. Both felt like outcasts and while the other employees sold flutes and guitars, Rachel and Trevor became fast friends, confiding in each other and realizing they both were musically inclined. Their first collaboration was a track called “Such a Beautiful Sound,” written at a friend’s house,” and the transition from music store co-workers to band mates was a natural next step.

The duo’s quirky songwriting began to get attention when they posted “Pardon Me” online. At first the track got five or six plays a day; later it got thousands. So Rachel and Trevor wrote more songs and the musical connection between the two was apparent from the start.

By 2010 it was time for those fans to have more music than a few online songs. He Is We spent much of the year recording the ten tracks for their debut album with several producers. First with Casey Bates (Chiodos, Gatsby’s American Dream) at his Seattle studio, then with Aaron Sprinkle (Anberlin, Eisley) at his. Later the band flew to New York to record some tracks with Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson, Jenny Owen Youngs) and laid down a few more with Shep Goodman and Aaron Accetta. Working with so many different producers created what the band feels is a sense of open-minded diversity on the record.

The final album, which was released digitally in November, is a delightfully eclectic collection of acoustic songs that shine with enthusiasm and passion. The album as a whole is lovely and inviting, easily accessible for any listener. The disc evolves that initial meeting in the music store to prancing pop songs that always leave you wanting more. “Making the album turned our little demos into exactly what we were hoping for,” Rachel says. “It made our little babies grow up into beautiful young songs.” This is where you’d expect the story to close with “Happily ever after.” But He Is We is just getting started. As Rachel says, “It’s only going to get better.”

We really enjoyed the He is We music album. My son even snatched it away and kept it for his own. It went missing for a while, and when I heard him say something about that being his CD I realized he had it in his music collection (which is quite large). The pop music is easy to listen to and great music. And it’s a plus that the whole family can enjoy it together.

STOP BUGGING ME Buggy Fun for Summer By Sharen Pearson

Much to the dismay of their mothers, toddlers hold a relentless fascination for bugs. They follow, squish, catch and even eat them! Perhaps the novelty lies in the never-ending variety of creepy crawlers or that bugs are smaller than these little ones. Here are some simple buggy activities that will enchant your children this summer.

Bug Catcher
Save the net from your fresh produce. Lace a chenille wire around the top to support the sides. The net makes a tiny bug catcher for your child. Always help identify any bugs that might be dangerous. Catch, observe and release.

Butterfly or Dragonfly
Attach colored tissue paper wings to a toilet tissue or paper towel tube for wings. Slip a hair band over the tube and place on toddler’s wrist to flap and fly. For more advanced work, drop food color onto a wet coffee filter. Allow to dry and use for wings. Two filters for dragonfly and one for butterfly.

Big Bug
Fashion antennae with chenille wire and attach to your child’s head with clips. Gather a sheet of tissue paper at the center. Duct tape to the back of the shirt for butterfly wings. Fly away little butterfly!

Tot Cocoon
Give your toddler the end piece of a roll of toilet tissue. Have him gently spin to wrap the paper around and around forming a cocoon. If the paper breaks, just tuck the loose end in and begin again. Continue as your child is comfortable (most won’t let you cover the face). Count 1, 2, 3 and have your butterfly “hatch out” and fly away.

Lady Bug
Make a tiny ladybug from the cup of an egg carton. Cut the section. Paint red and add black dots. Tape twisted bits of paper on for antennae. For a counting activity: make five bugs and draw 1 spot, 2 spots etc. on the five bugs. Count the spots and the bugs.

Caterpillar
Cut a six-section length from an egg carton. Your toddler can glue cotton balls on each section for “fuzz.” Draw a face on one end of the section and add chenille or paper antennae. Punch a hole in the front and tie a string on to “walk your bug.” For more advanced work, paint each section of the caterpillar yellow or even a rainbow.

Bug Collage
Draw (or print from a website) several bugs on paper. Make a simple paste of flour and water. Your tot can glue on dry rice, macaroni, bits of colored paper and/or cake sprinkles to decorate the bugs.

Bugs in a tub
Pour 6 cups of dry rice into a large flat container. Add toy plastic bugs (or your ladybugs), measuring cups, recycled plastic containers, paper tubes and play as in a sand box. To protect the floor and give your activity a boundary, place the tub in the center of a sheet or shower curtain. Your child will play for hours.

“Beyond All Measure” by Dorothy Love Book Review

With a new mission and a new start to her life, Ada Wentworth sets off to begin again in Beyond All Measure by Dorothy Love. She is a young lady who has been through hard times, but she’s not afraid to grasp life by the horns. Miss Wentworth heads to Hickory Ridge, Tennessee, for a job, but there is more there than she realizes. Love seems to find her even when she isn’t looking for it. Is she ready to respond, though?

I really enjoyed this Christian, historical fiction, romance book. I was drawn right into the story and immediately connected with the characters. Here is a girl from a rich family, and she found herself in hard times. But what I love about the main character, Ada, is that she’s not afraid to work. She seeks employment and has big dreams to start a business of her own (not a small task for a single woman in 19th century).

Even though the main character in Beyond All Measure isn’t a Christian, she slowly starts to see the love of Christ through her new friends and church. God works on her heart, and she has many new things to think about.

Beyond All Measure is a fun, easy to read book. If you’re into this type of fiction, you will enjoy it. It’s well written and a great book overall. You can find Beyond All Measure by Dorothy Love at local bookstores and online as well.

Dermatologist Advises Which Skin Care Products to Try and What You Should Toss

When shopping for skin care products, many beauty consumers can be confused about which products to try and which to toss. With so many choices, it’s easy to fall for clever packaging and marketing terminology. According to Houston, TX Dermatologist Dr. Paul Friedman, “the skin care market is full of products that can help improve challenged skin, but many of my patients experience frustration with an oversaturated beauty market.”



Below Dr. Friedman notes some of the most common “beauty blunders” when it comes to buying and using consumer skin care products:



· If you have acne-prone skin, avoid buying lotions that come in a jar or pot, says Dr. Friedman. Dipping your fingers into lotions every day introduces bacteria to the entire jar, and that can translate onto your skin, causing breakouts or infections.



· Ask for recommendations, but proceed with caution. The old adage went, if you see a woman with great hair; ask where she had it done. The same can be applied to skin care – ask a friend what kind of moisturizer she likes and you might find your new favorite product, but keep in mind skin care is a unique experience: what works for some does not work for all.



· If you are buying environmentally friendly products, watch out for those that are “paraben free.” Parabens have been singled out as potentially dangerous chemicals, but what most consumers don’t know is they are included in skincare items for a reason – to help them last longer. Most paraben-free products will spoil after a certain timeframe, which is usually listed on the package. Pay attention to this date and treat it almost like a food item, says Dr. Friedman.



· You don’t need an “arsenal” of products to look your best. Many skin care companies sell their products in a series or grouping. According to Dr. Friedman, most women only need a gentle cleanser, daily moisturizer with SPF of 15 or higher, and a moisture-rich night cream to maintain a healthy complexion.



· Read the (back of the) labels. Many products contain irritants like added fragrances or alcohols that can dry the skin. No matter what a package promises on the front, read the back carefully to ensure you are getting what’s advertised. If you have skin sensitivities towards certain foods, it is also important to look for essential oils, which are often derived from foods that can cause allergies in some people.



· Don’t be fooled by clever marketing terminology. Product packaging is usually designed to do one thing: sell the product. Dr. Friedman says the last thing you should look for in a product is an appealing design. Be wary of claims like “dermatologist tested” or “allergy tested.” These phrases often carry little meaning.



· Watch where you store your skin care. Different types of products, such as gels, may have temperature requirements in order to stay effective, notes Dr. Friedman. Leaving products in direct sunlight, in extreme heat or cold could also affect their performance. If there are no directions, Dr. Friedman notes products should be kept in cool, dry areas.



According to Dr. Friedman, the more you educate yourself, the better your chances are of finding a skin care routine that works for you.

“In Zanesville” by Jo Ann Beard Book Review

“In Zanesville” by Jo Ann Beard is a book that you must add to your summer reading list. This is a book about a young teenager in a small town in the 1970’s. She is on a journey to discover who she really is, but we all know how tough the teen years can be.

I felt like this book hit the feelings of an early teen girl right on. It was like a flashback to my younger days (though I was a little more reserved) and how difficult those years can be. You couldn’t pay me to go back to high school. I have no desire. Of course there were good things, but teenagers go through so many emotions and that’s not worth reliving for me.

We got the chance to try a few different Funky Monkey Snacks. Everything was so good. The freeze dry gives the fruit a nice crunch. I loved the flavors too. They were sweet without being too sweet. This is a snack that I don’t feel guilty about giving my son either. He feels like it is a treat, but he’s getting a serving of fruit.

Jerdon Tri-Fold Lighted Mirror Review

I have never had a makeup mirror. I was so excited to get this Jerdon Tri-Fold Lighted Mirror. It has everything in a mirror plus so much more than I wanted or needed. I have used one at my Mom’s, but this one is even nicer.

The Jerdon Tri-Fold Lighted Mirror is an adjustable tri-fold makeup mirror with cool fluorescent lighting. It has a two sided mirror, one regular reflection and the other 5x magnification. There are 4 color-correct light selections. You can choose day, home, office, or evening light. It has a folding back, collapsible side mirrors, and a built-in outlet. The whole mirror measures 19 x 12 inches when fully extended.

I have enjoyed the Jerdon Tri-Fold Lighted Mirror. I like the large size, but I had to make a big spot for it in my soon. I think I finally fond the perfect spot. I like the magnified mirror side as well (It helps with the occasional plucking of chin hairs, not that I know anything about that! Ha!). And the lighting options are handy, even if I’m usually pretty plain and simple with my makeup. This is a nice, versatile mirror that is useful for anyone. And it’s not too early to think about Christmas gifts. I think this would be a great one for the hard to buy for woman, anyone will love it.
