"Touching the Sky" by Tracie Peterson - Land of the Lone Star #2

Tracie Peterson is one of my favorite authors. She writes Christian fiction. And most of her books, like this one, are historical fiction. I have learned about all sorts of places in the country from her engaging stories. This latest series is the Land of the Lone Star. The first book in the series Chasing the Sun was wonderful, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book in the series.

The product: Touching the Sky by Tracie Peterson:

Her heart is caught between the man she loves and the sister she's desperate to protect.

Though their first encounter is hardly auspicious, Laura Marquardt soon discovers herself drawn to the dashing Captain Brandon Reid. As an officer over the colored troops, he eagerly supports her desire to educate blacks and seek harmony in a town where the defeat of the South is a bitter reality.

When Laura's sister marries her Confederate beau, Laura finds herself in a difficult situation after overhearing a discussion with frightening consequences. In her heart she feels she should confide in Brandon, but Laura fears to do so may endanger her sister's life. Yet as the stakes continue to rise and Brandon's motives for pursuing her come into doubt, Laura questions where to turn...and wonders if her own dreams of love may be forsaken.

"a superb novel that blends romance with post-Civil War history...and the evolution of our nation as it struggled through this turbulent time." --CBA Retailers & Resources"Peterson has done her history homework and writes with the confidence acquired over the course of authoring more than 90 novels...Peterson's many fans will certainly be pleased with this foray into Texas history." --Publishers Weekly

What I thought: This book picked right up where the last one left off. It was very good. I think that Touching the Sky is my favorite book in the series so far. Maybe I related well to Laura, being the oldest in her family and her concern for her younger sister. I don't know what for sure it was, but this story is enticing. There is quite the drama for Laura and especially her sister, Carissa, when they start hearing things about Carissa's husband. His involvement is bad news, but how can they fix things without hurting Carissa in the process?

Where to buy: You can find Touching the Sky by Tracie Peterson in stores and online now.
