NaBloPoMo What?

Have you heard of NaBloPoMo? I have done it in the past on my personal blog. It is a challenge for bloggers to post every day in the month of November. 30 posts in 30 days.

I'm not always the most dedicated to my blogging. So I am taking on this challenge to post at least once each day. Here I have plenty of new reviews/giveaways to get up, so it will motivate me to get all caught up. On my personal blog it will be a bit more of a stretch to find quality content for 30 days in a row.

Would you like to participate? Let me know if you'll be joining in the fun, so I can follow you too. Good luck!

Goosebumps DVD Review

From the kids series of "spooky" chapter books by R.L. Stine, Goosebumps are also available on DVD. The Headless Ghost and Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns are available now on DVD. These join great DVDs already from Goosebumps, like The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight, One Day in Horrorland, A Night in the Terror Tower, and more.

If you or your children have ever read the R.L. Stine Goosebumps books, you will love these DVDs. They are spooky without being gory or too scary. Just right for elementary aged kids.

I have seen several of these DVDs. When I was tutoring for an after school program, I would take them along with me. The kids loved them. I would guess the 3rd through 8th graders liked them best. But they are also the same age group reading the books.

In the Headless Ghost DVD the episodes are "The Headless Ghost" about the ghost of a young boy would lost his head and is now looking for a new one, "Awesome Ants" where an ant farm goes crazy, and "Teacher's Pet" in which an overnight trip to a nature camp gets a little ssssnaky.

The Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns DVD includes "Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns" where a group of kids gets a little scare on Halloween night, "Vampire Breath" that leads a brother and sister to a secret place in their basement, and "Let's Get Invisible" where two boys find a strange mirror in the attic that has the special power of invisibility.

The DVDs both run about 66 minutes. They are geared at children ages 9-13. They are great for Halloween. I definitely recommend this for your elementary aged kids. And if nothing else, maybe it will pique their interest in the books as well.

Buy It: Goosebumps: The Headless Ghost & Goosebumps: Attack of the Jack-O'-Lanterns DVDs are available now.

My Printies Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

Printies! Maybe you've seen them advertised before. They were featured on Live with Regis & Kelly. I had heard of them, but it was fun to try them for ourselves.

So what are Printies exactly? Well, they are stuffed toys that you and your child can design and make yourselves.

How do they work? You get a kit from Printies, they have 3 themed ones Ocean, pets, and jungle. Then you go to their website, MyPrinties.com. You get a code to use there with your kit. You design your animal character however you want, and you then print your own personalized printie out on your ink jet printer using the special fabric sheets that come in your kit.

How do I design my Printies? You can design them however you want. Their online website has a program that you easily download to your computer. It has the shapes that come in your box with pre-made design part. For instance, you can choose from several different eyes, clothing, etc. There is also an option to upload your own photos. You could place your precious child's face right on the stuffed toy.

Are they hard to make? Nope. If you have minimal computer skills, you just click away until you have your Printies designed like you want. Then using the fabric sheets from the package, you print your design on them. They give you step by step instructions and a practice sheet, so you'll have no problems getting it right. Then you tear the paper edges off, stuff the printed part, click the shoes on and enjoy! Simple stuff.

We received the Printies - Ocean Design Studios starter kit. My son enjoyed designing his own penguin right away. It was easy to load and use the program from their website. And the end result is rather cute.

There were a few minor troubles we had. Mostly because my son is too young for these. He's only 3 and the recommended age is 6, so keep that in mind. He doesn't have the computer skills to be able to do this on his own. He needed my help in creating it, but he did like looking through the design choices and making it his own. The other problem we had was the little plastic shoes. Zachariah played with them too much, and it didn't take much to break them. But older kids will probably be more gentle with these as well.

More about Printies: Printies starter kits are available in 3 designs- Pets Design Studio (with a pets theme), Jungle Design Studio (with jungle animals), and the Oceans Design Studio (with ocean animals). They are designed for children ages 6 and up. The MSRP for the Design Studio is $19.99 and the refill packs for $9.99. You can see more about them and user submitted designs at www.myprinties.com.

Buy It: If you'd like to be able to make your own Printies toys at home, they are available at retailers nationwide, including Amazon.com, Target, Toys "R" Us, Toysrus.com, and Walgreens.

Win It: I have (3) sets of Printies (one of each design) to give away to one of you.

"If the World Were a Village" DVD Review +{Giveaway}

If the World Were a Village is a great new DVD based off of the book If the World Were a Village by David J. Smith.

If we took everyone in the whole world and see what that would look like if they were only 100 people living in a village together. This is a well done DVD that looks at statistics across the globe with things like race, age, language, religion, and more. It really puts some things in perspective by looking at it on a smaller scale.

From the publisher:
For example, out of 100 people:
  • 61 would be from Asia, 13 from Africa, 5 from North America, 8 from Central and South America, 12 from Europe and 1 from Oceania (Australia, South Pacific, etc).
  • More than half would speak one of eight languages: Chinese, Hindi, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Bengali, Arabic and Russian.
  • Represented faiths would include Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Muslim and non-organized religions.
  • 39 people would be under 19 years of age, 42 would be between ages 20-49, 18 would be older than 50 and 1 would be older than 80.
I truly enjoyed this DVD. I love children's literature, and it was really neat to see a great book come to life. This is great for children of all ages. And I can see that it would be a fantastic resource in schools and classrooms. There is so much we can learn and be more aware of by thinking of the world on a much smaller scale.

This DVD runs about 25 minutes. It's also available in English, Spanish, and French. You can see those options at www.master-comm.com. It is great for children and adults of all ages. They recommend children ages 6 and up.

Buy It: You can get this DVD online.

Win It: I do have one (1) copy of If the World Were a Village DVD for a lucky reader to win.

To Enter: Just leave a comment here. (Boy, I'm being really easy today.) Be sure to leave your e-mail address too, so I can contact you when you win. (If I can't find an e-mail address or don't already have it, I will draw a new number for the winner.)

Brandi Carlile: Give Up the Ghost CD Review + {Giveaway}

Just released Brandi Carlile's second album "Give Up the Ghost" has been a big hit already as the itunes #1 best-selling album in it's first week of release! "Give Up the Ghost" was released earlier this month. It's available in stores and online currently.

Brandi Carlile's music has been compared to KT Tunstall, Indigo Girls, Missy Huggins and Rachael Yamagata. If you like any of these artists, you'll definitely want to give Brandi Carlile a try. She has toured with different groups such Ray Lamontagne, Dave Matthews Band and Sheryl Crow.

"Giving Up the Ghost" by Brandi Carlile is a great CD. I really enjoyed this music. The acoustic sounds of her songs are very pleasant for listening. To be honest, this is the first of her music that I've heard (to my knowledge). I like a variety of music, but I'm not into discovering new artists much. However, when a good one falls in my lap like this, I do enjoy giving them a chance. I will definitely keep Brandi Carlile's music in my playlist.

Spanish for Beginners: Adentro y Afuera (Inside and Out) DVD Review

Spanish for Beginners: Adentro y Afuera (Inside and Out) is a great DVD with the fun Whistlefritz to help your young child learn Spanish. With helpful people and interesting animated characters, this is a creative way for children to learn a little bit of Spanish. And it's been released in time for National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15- Oct. 15).

From the press release:
Founded in 2006, Whistlefritz was started by a mom who wanted to teach her own children Spanish. Frustrated by the lack of high-quality Spanish immersion programs, she decided to create her own Spanish DVDs and CDs for children...and so Whistlefritz was born and two award-winning title, Vamos a Jugar (Let's Play) and Los Animales (The Animals) were released.

Learning to understand and speak Spanish - the world's third most spoken language - opens up a new world of opportunity for children, but it only works if the lessons can hold their attention. That's where Whistlefritz comes in. The series' use of engaging stores, funny characters, lively music and interactive fun makes it an invaluable and entertaining teaching tool that stimulates, educates and allows kids to quickly and easily make the language all their own.

I have seen many places that children learn a second language much faster at a younger age, so this video is right on point with tailoring to kids. Using a simple speak and repeat helps children to try speaking the words they are learning.

In Spanish for Beginner: Adentro y Afuera Marie and her little mouse friend, Fritzi, go around the house learning the Spanish words for every day household items. They also explore outside and learn more words around the playground. This DVD is targeted at children ages 2-7. It has received several different awards and a few other DVDs and CDs from Whistlefritz have as well. The DVD runs about 30 minutes, so it will keep your children's attention.

Buy It: This DVD is available now on the Whistlefritz website.

Shaun the Sheep: Little Sheep of Horrors DVD +{Giveaway}

Oh how we love Halloween. Oh how we love Shaun the Sheep. So putting the two together would be...spooooooky. Or maybe we're just get Shaun the Sheep: Little Sheep of Horrors. This new DVD from the producers of Wallace & Gromit has a little spooky and a lot kooky.

When you hear creepy creaks and groans in his farmyard, you probably don't need to look too far to find a fluffy culprit. Shaun the Sheep and his pals are always into something. You don't want to miss a moment of this fleecy fun!

I have really grown to love Shaun the Sheep. The silent action never fails to deliver on laughs. I love that he is fun for people of all ages too. My son loves to see the antics, but they are not beyond me. I can laugh and laugh at all those silly little sheep too.

Zachariah has enjoyed this video so much (and many times). One of his favorite scenes is when Barney and his friends go to a local farmer for Halloween and fall decorations. They learn all about fall and autumn and sing a great song. He loved the song about fall/autumn and even sang it to my cousin, Autumn. Barney: Jungle Friends DVD Review + {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

Barney is bringing us a new movie. Barney: Jungle Friends DVD is a brand new movie with Barney, Baby Bop, BJ, and some friends they meet along the way. Singing, dancing, imagining, and learning are all things Barney loves to do. When he and his pals go out to explore in the jungle, they will do plenty of fun things.

From the press release about it:
Trusted by moms and adored by children, Barney displays sharing, caring, imagination, dancing and learning on television, online and through live events, home entertainment and publishing. The Emmy award-winning series, Barney & Friends changed the face of children's programming when it first launched and continues to be one of the top-rated preschool shows today, airing on PBS KIDS and PBS KIDS Sprout. In preschool home entertainment, the Barney brand continues to be a favorite, ranking as a top-5 preschool DVD brand overall, doubling its ranking from last year!

It's not hard to see why mom's and kids alike love Barney. He's always so lovable and fun. My 3 year fell instantly in love with Barney about a year ago when he first saw The Best of Barney on DVD. I was never a big fan of Barney, sure he's educational and great for young kids, but he's soooo annoying with all that lovey-dovey stuff and all his...purpleness. I have to admit that I've completely changed my mind. The singing and dancing is great for my son. And the lessons and stories he learns are wonderful. I have been won over to the Barney side. Zachariah really enjoyed this newest DVD, and it's movie format is something different that is good.

In Barney: Jungle Friends Barney, BJ, and Baby Bop go exploring through the jungle. They get to see and learn about animals and plants that make their home in the jungle. They also go in search of the legendary "Higgledy Piggledy Pear Tree".

Barney: Jungle Friends is geared toward 2-5 year old children. The movie runs about 50 minutes long. And there are a few special extras on this DVD. Earth Baby contents

Sarah from No Whey, Mama asked what the ingredients in the Earth Baby products I tried were. So here is the list from the bottles I have. Thanks for the great question, Sarah.

Earth Baby Tiny Bubbles Baby Shampoo - Chamomile Recutita (Matricania) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Cocamidopropyl Hydrozysultaine, Lauryl Glucoside, Glycerin, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate, Polyquaternium=7, Honey Extract, Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids, Sodium Cocoyl Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, PEG-150 Distearate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes, Water (and) Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract (Fresh Cells), Trisoium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, 1,2 Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance containing Chamomile Oil, Lavender Oil, and Vanilla.

Earth Baby Sun 'N Fun Baby Sunscreen - Active Ingredients - Titanium Dioxide 5%, Zinc Oxide 3%, Inactive Ingredients - Butylene Glycol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), C20-22 Alcohols, C20-22 Alkyl Phosphate, Cathamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Oleosomes, Cetearyl Olivate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Citric Acid, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, fragrance containing Chamomile Oil, Lavender Oil, and Vanilla, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydrolyzed Milk Protein, Jojoba Alcohol, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Polyglyceryl-3 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Potassium Jojobate, Sclerotium Gum, Sorbitan Olivate, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Water (and) Mangefera Indica (Mango) Fruit Extract (Fresh Cells).

And I'm guessing, Sarah, that this little bit- Hydrolyzed Milk Protein- is what you were looking for & should be avoided for your family. Are there any other ingredients in there that you have to avoid? I'm curious. It was in the list for the Sunscreen only.

Earth Baby Review & {Giveaway} (CLOSED)

We all want to keep our kids happy and healthy. Using organic products is one great way that we can do this. Earth Baby is a company that makes organic baby products. They are committed to using natural products to keep your children's skin soft and free from chemicals.

Earth Baby gave me the chance to try their Tiny Bubbles Baby Shampoo and the Sun 'N Fun Baby Sunscreen.

The Baby Shampoo (pictured above) smells so lovely with lavender, vanilla, and chamomile smells. It is a smooth texture that I like in shampoo, but thin enough that you don't need to use much for a little child's hair. It washes my son's hair really clean and leaves it silky soft. I really like that it is tear free just like other baby shampoos that we use. And this one is hypoallergenic too. It is great for kids with sensitive skin.

The Baby Sunscreen (pictured below) comes in a small 2 oz. bottle that is great to throw in a purse or diaper bag for on the go fun. I have gotten particular about sunscreen, because my son reacted to a "children's" sunscreen once that I later discovered wasn't hypoallergenic. I took for granted that most "children's" and "baby" sunscreens are hypoallergenic, but I've learned to look carefully for those special words now. Earth Baby's Sun 'N Fun Baby Sunscreen is indeed free of paba that makes my son's skin react sometimes. Also, the sunscreen is 30 SPF. I usually look for something higher, but for short outdoor times this would be plenty sufficient.

If you'd like to see a list of the ingredients in the two products I tried, look here.

Earth Baby also carries other types of organic products. They have a variety of baby products like Playful Sudzz Bath Gel, Soothe n' Comfort Diaper Rash Cream, Cuddle Soft Baby Lotion, and other stuff too. They also offer a cute little Diaper Tote & Changing Mat, plus right now they're offering a free Cosmetic Pouch with the purchase of a Diaper Tote.

I'm impressed with all the products I've seen from Earth Baby. I know that many mothers are looking for organic products to use for their babies. It's great to find a company that makes them with such good quality.

Buy It: You can get Earth Baby Organics products through their website.

Win It: The generous people at Earth Baby are offering one lucky reader their very own Tiny Bubbles Baby Shampoo AND Fun 'N Sun Baby Sunscreen (a $35 value)! Hurray! I can't believe how generous they are. Thanks Earth Baby!
