"The corner office has become symbolic of high performance and success," says author and former CEO Lamar Smith. "It's an office that men and women all over the world strive to occupy. The CEO is the modern equivalent of royalty and the corner office is the 'throne room.'"
"The corner office" is the epitome of American business success. I've seen it in my life so many times. And even when it's not in the business world, people in our society are always striving for bigger and better. We really do want to "keep up with the Joneses," even if we're afraid to admit it.
I'm not a business woman (and probably never will be), but the concept of striving for the best is not lost on me. Even as a stay at home mom, I look at other people and think they've got it more pulled together...or they have something better than me...or they are a better person than me. My goals always get higher and higher and harder to reach.
And the question for some business people is are they willing to do what it takes to get to the top? If so it will probably mean hurting people and relationships along the way. I have seen this happen to people I know, and I'm sure you have too.
The book "There's More to Life Than the Corner Office" by Lamar Smith touches on these very issues. He tells us a story of a business man who figured out how to achieve all he wanted. Instead of hoarding his wisdom, the astute businessman chooses young men to pass along to. He invest his time into them to help them realize what the most important things in life are.
I love the way this book is written. Sure it's characters are businessmen, but the book appeals to everyone. The lessons in the story are pertinent to people in all walks of life. And the story is one that appeals to everyone. I enjoyed the storytelling, and I couldn't put this book down. (I read it in about an hour and a half to two hours.)
"There's More to Life Than the Corner Office" is a great read for anyone you know. And with Christmas coming up, I think it would be a wonderful gift or stocking stuffer for especially the businessperson in your life.

I can't believe you finished it so quickly! At first I didn't think I'd be interested in the book by it's title but after reading your review and hearing you say how it can be for the everyday person just trying to go further in life made it more interesting to read. Then I read the Christmas idea you suggested and I would love to give this to my Dad for Christmas, he's been in school for a couple years and is finishing the end of this year on a business education. So this would be a great idea to hand to him. Thanks for the chance lady! Didn't know you did book review/giveaways :)

To be honest, the website wasn't that thrilling to me. However, your review actually made this book sound interesting and I think my husband and my dad would both enjoy it.
