Chanukah Fever CD by Mama Doni

I know that Chanukah is over. I just didn't want you to miss out on this great CD. I always put away seasonal things and then bring them out every year. It's always fun to find new things and stash them away for next year too. Then when you open the box, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find something new that everyone can enjoy together. So even though Chanukah is over, I hope you'll consider this CD for your holiday collection - Chanukah Fever by Mama Doni.

As seen on FOX-5's "Good Day New York," NBC's "Weekend Today in New York," SHALOM TV, and E Channel's "The Soup"...

MONTCLAIR, NJ (October 24, 2011) - The inimitable Mama Doni brings her special brand of "Funky music with a Jewish twist" to her classic holiday CD, Chanukah Fever (Mama Doni Productions, $15, run time 36 minutes, all ages). The album, resplendent with Mama Doni's signature style, features 10 Mama Doni originals, plus 4 favorites from her previous EP, I Love Chanukah!

Doni Zasloff Thomas, a.k.a. Mama Doni, is the lead singer/songwriter of The Mama Doni Band, honored with a 2011 Parents' Choice Award for their recent release, Shabbat Shaboom, and write of the Simcha Award for "Inspiring Joy Through Music" in competition with more than 100 bands from 15 different countries at the 2008 International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam.
Chanukah lasts only either days, and Mama Doni says, "Enjoy!" The popular sing/songwriter expands the horizons of traditional Jewish music, with a contagious and unexpected blend of reggae, rock, disco, Latin, klezmer and "Jewgreass" - all woven together with a hip Jewish sensibility. In Chanukah Fever, Mama Doni spices these eclectic, colorful elements with a razor-sharp, sophisticated humor that makes latkes, dreidels and Yiddish expressions cooler than ever.
If Spike Jones and his City Slickers were Jewish, they might have created Chanukah Fever. Quirky, zany, off-beat, and unpredictable, the album's highlights include such songs as the title tracks, a dyno-mite ditty about disco dreidels, a million latkes, and dancin' for either whole days and nights (with as much variety as could possibly be put into one song); "Honey, This Aint's Money!," in which Johnny Cash meets Bubbie meets "Hot Rod Lincoln," a completely nutty "Jewgrass" sing-along in "Bubbie's Mi Yamelel"; "Latke Man," a retro-swing pop song about a potato-lovin' fella; "The Funky Gold Menorah," a kid-friendly hip-hop dance tune about a "Super Fly Judaica sensation; "La Vida Dreidel," a Jewish twist on Latin style; and "I Say Chanukah (You Say Hanukah!)," a quirky steel drum, island-style number.
According to Carried Stetler in The Star-Ledger, Doni Zasloff Thomas "is proud to have a schtick. And that schtick, she asys is to 'Jewify' all forms of music - from country to reggae to holiday songs." The Miami Herald enthused, "Not since Woody Allen's Radio Days has American Jewish youth culture been celebrated with such a sublime mix of silly and substantive."
Mama Doni, a resident of Montcalir, New Jersey, hopes that her music will add some Jewish flavor to the lives of people everywhere. She speaks with great passion about preserving the priceless Yiddish and Jewish spirit by imbuing it with a contemporary vibe that connects to life in our times.
Mama Doni's recordings are available nationwide, as CDs and digital downloads, from Barnes and Noble, Amazon, FYE.com, iTunes, and select Costco locations. Projects currently in production include a Mama Doni book, DVD, and new CD. A TV pilot is also in the works!
